The locking plate locks the Camshaft Gears into place during Timing and other service procedures on 2.8 Litre CRD Diesel Engines. 

This tool is used if having to remove the camshaft gears.
The cam locking pins cannot hold the torque required to retorque the nuts that hold the cam gears to the cams. This tool is nessesary to hold the cam gears in place when reinstalling the gears.

This tool is handy for timing belt changes since you would not have to remove the alternator or install the CAM locking pins when using the CAM gear holder (VM.1085)

This special tool can be used in conjunction with the DM21-1680 for engine timing.
